Jing'an Temple
Introduction
Jing'an Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple located in the midst of shopping malls and remarkable skyscrapers. The temple was first constructed in 247 Ad during the Three Empires Period and has since undergone a couple of reconstructions and restorations.

See the largest Buddha
The temple is renowned for the portrait of Sakyamuni Buddha standing auspiciously and venerably at 12 feet tall and weighing 1.1 metric tons made out of pure jade with a unique facial expression.
Statues
There is also a statue of Guanyin carved from camphor and standing at 20.4 feet high weighing 5 metric tons
Halls and Temple Fairs
There are three main halls in the temple: Mahavira hall, The Hall of the Heavenly King and the Sage hall. Every year on the 8th day of the Lunar calendar in April there is a traditional ceremony held at the temple to celebrate Buddha’s Birthday and on this same day residents come out to and showcase and sell handmade crafts as well as home produced vegetables and fruits.
The temple is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Shanghai where you can enjoy the serenity and auspiciousness of the area as you marvel at unique paintings and calligraphy designs from the famous Eight Eccentric Painters based in the Exhibition Hall of Buddhist Relics.
