Niujie Mosque
One of the world’s oldest mosques, built in 996 AD during Liao dynasty, Niujie Mosque with more than 1000 years old covering around 6,000 square meters welcomes Muslims from all over the world to worship, so it also regarded as a central religious and historical mosque in China. It was built by Nasuluddin, an Arab scholar who wants to spread Muslim culture in China, and later many Muslims immigrate this place, so it's now the largest Muslim Street in Beijing.
From the appearance and interior decoration, the building and design were deeply affected by traditional Chinese architecture which mixed with Arabic-style decoration. You can see Arabic manuscript, dragons and cloud engraved on the buttresses or ceiling, wood carving, big copper pan, and colorful chandeliers makes the hall sparkling with gold radiance more majestic and grand. And you can sit and rest for a moment to escape the hustle of a metropolis.
It has the main Prayer Hall, the Moon Building, Minaret Building, the Tablet Pavilion and Bath Room. You can have a laid-back walk in the mosque, but remember that the main prayer is forbidden for non-Muslims.
The halal food is delicious and unusual, you can easily find tasty food here.
Tips:
Prayers of men and women was separated from each other, and non-Muslim believers are forbidden to enter the pray hall. Do not to wear shirts and a skirt.
